When one says executive job search, what does this mean? There are many types of executive jobs and many titles by which they are known. The executive level jobs may include companies that have many vice presidents. Each vice president may have a different sector of the business which he is responsible for overseeing. However, the executive vice president is the highest ranking. Under him are the senior vice president and the rest of just called vice presidents. There may be more than one executive vice president depending upon the company.

For instance, banks and brokerage firms may have several branch offices in relation to their main office. Each branch office may have an executive vice president to handle the office at their location. In this case, the title may be more of an appearance title for the benefit of customers. This does not mean they cannot make decisions but they are normally cleared with the main headquarters first.

There are many types of positions that are offered when a chief executive jobs search is undertaken. The following are just a few of the different industries for which an executive vice president may be hired:

  • Administration
  • Marketing
  • Operations
  • Communications
  • Sales
The good news for people seeking these types of jobs is they are normally high paying jobs. It is not rare for executive vice president positions to be paid six figures and have added benefits. The executive positions that are available require a certain type of education and training.

The executive level personnel will have a bachelor’s degree in business administration. The liberal arts may also be considered or even a more specialized degree. The public’s top executives may have a degree in public administration. The top executive positions may or may not be a result of hiring from within the company so this may one aspect you want to consider when trying to get the inside track on an executive position.

This may be a reason to want to start out in a lower level and work your way up to the top. In lieu of having a degree there may be exceptions when certain people work their way to this position. This may be possible if they have started somewhere else within the company and have made a point of learning everything they can possibly learn about the company for which they work. However, many companies prefer to have someone who is experienced in managerial duties so they often go outside the company to find the right person.

Other qualifications might be an analytical mind so that large amounts of information are easily assessed as to relevance. Their communication skills must be impeccable and the powers of persuasion are just as important. There are many other qualifications such as knowing how to be a good leader, not just the boss.

A sincere desire to succeed and the motivation to do so is another quality that one must possess in order to be considered for the position of executive vice president. The ability to make decisions based on all the factors and also the knowledge that their decisions may not always make them the most popular person around is one aspect to consider. Therefore an all encompassing desire to have people like you cannot be a part of your personal makeup.

There may be training programs within the company that are designed for the advancement of employees to executive vice president. Many companies feel that hiring from within is indeed the best way to go if possible. The background that you have within the company may help to accelerate your career.

One program offered by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers will allow you to get the certified manager title which is basically training followed by an exam. This is not normally a requirement in order to become an executive vice president but the demonstration of your dedication to this position can be documented by obtaining this certification.

Many areas of the country have far more openings in this job title than others. The highest number of opening are more prevalent in Dallas, Texas, Washington, DC, San Diego, California, New York City, NY, and Chicago, Illinois. The area of the country in which you live or are willing to relocate will determine how many positions are open and what the rate of pay will be. The executive level jobs are among the highest paid in the U.S. The middle salary range is $85, 230 and this includes earning up to $128, 580 and over. The difference in the type of career you choose will make the difference in the pay scale. For example, engineering and these types of services are at the top of the pay scale with six figure incomes at the present time. The local government surprisingly is at the bottom.

If this is the type of position you think you would like to end up working in, make sure you prepare for it ahead of time. Either take the appropriate classes while you are still in high school to prepare for the college curriculum you will need to get a degree or find a company that likes to advance from within. Either way you can work your way to the six figure income that you desire.
