Making Your Way to the Top

In the fast paced corporate world it can be very difficult to climb the ladder and be noticed, but in truth it's actually rather easy. If you notice, the people who are at the very top are the ones who are extremely outspoken. Does this have anything to do with the position that they hold? Absolutely! The company wants someone in charge who can make a difference and you can't make a difference if you are always quiet, keeping to yourself, and just doing the bare minimum to get by. Those who want success are going to go out, grab it, and put it in a paper bag to take home with them. You need to be that person, you need to make sure that you are seen and heard both within your company, and outside of it by everyone who can spread the word about what you can do.

The first thing that you can do is volunteer to go to every single convention and speak at them. If there is an open space for a speaker and you know the topic, then you need to make the reservation. If there is an open space and the topic is something that you have no idea about, then you need to study and learn all about it, so that you can give a competent presentation. When people see you speak, and they know that you know what you’re talking about, they’ll begin to talk about you. Suddenly you will become the foremost authority on many topics and people will come to you for advice.

You need to make yourself visible, and the best way to do that is attend events in your community whether they interest you or not. Speak to people, make your opinions known, and in fact treat every day like you are campaigning for a political office. You would be amazed how your actions in the outside world will affect your standing in the office and help you to climb the corporate ladder.

Write articles for publications on topics that are related to your work or to things happening in the community. Remember, those who are outspoken are the ones who are going to get noticed and be offered all the best opportunities for advancement. In truth, if you are a timid individual who is not outspoken and is not fond of being noticed, you will not get anywhere. If you want to climb to the top, and if you want to be the one that everyone talks about, and make all the money, then you will have to change the way you think. The timid will not survive the fast paced world of business.

So in all likelihood it is probably a lot easier than you thought. All you need to do is see what you want, and grab it. Though it might not be quite that easy for some people, with a little bit of work and a boost in self confidence, anything is possible.
