Online marketing jobs can be easily misconstrued as a traditional marketer that concentrates on online business development, but this is not the case. An online marketing job has completely divergent requirements that apply to entirely different responsibilities.

While a traditional marketer concentrates on market analysis, an online marketing job concentrates on search engines, primarily focusing on two terms known as SEO (search engine optimization) and SEM (search engine management). These two terms refer to increasing likelihood of an online query resulting in a link to a website for a particular business. Because of how complex this endeavor could be, an internet marketer has been distinguished from a traditional marketer, resulting in a completely different position.

Internet marketing employment is growing at a rate resulting in a demand just as acute as the demand of its traditional cousin. Rather than a passing fad in response to an emerging technology, internet marketing is becoming a business standard as ubiquitous as an online presence, resulting in the need for an influx. As a result, internet marketing is a lucrative field that requires a more rigorous skill set, but less education and experience.



Description of Online marketing employment

An online marketer is akin to a traditional marketer, but there are differences that render internet marketing a distinct trade. Essentially, all of the responsibilities of a traditional marketer translate to endeavors that relate specifically to the Internet. For example, whereas a traditional marketer would analyze his or her parent company, that company's clientele, and that company's competitors, an internet marketer would instead analyze his or her parent company's internet presence, the websites and social networks of that company's clientele, and the Internet presence and social as well as business network of that company's competitors. Additionally, as opposed to participation in a team comprised solely of marketers, an online marketer is part of a comprehensive team that includes search engine marketers, bloggers, programmers, and social network gurus. These teams are assembled pursuant of projects such as organic optimization, blog implementation, link-building, paid search marketing, site building, application development, and others.

Consistent with these responsibilities, an internet marketer must master a series of novel skills specific to online marketing employment. This includes search engine optimization and effective keyword development, blogging, online business analytics, online clientele procurement, dynamic or interactive advertising, and technical as well as design aptitude that specifically applies to internet marketing (such as a familiarity with Dreamweaver, HTML, Adobe Flash, and the various file types and their corresponding user compatibility).

Alternately, there are aspects of traditional marketing that does not apply to internet marketing. Foremost, there is little to no travel associated with internet marketing - in fact, many firms do not even require an internet marketer to conform to regular business hours or visit an office daily. Additionally, scheduled meetings are less frequent and in some cases, such meetings in person can be completely eliminated.

Requirements of Internet Marketing Employment

The requirements to become an online marketer are typical for that employment level in the field (skilled trade, non-managerial). Prerequisite education is usually a Bachelor's in Science or Business Administration with a concentration on marketing, advertising, communications, computer science, web design, or related field. Most firms also require a high competency in search engine optimization, search engine marketing, blogs, and business analytics (especially that relate to internet commerce, marketing, and development). Other requirements include abilities in either teaching or coaching, strong communication skills, organizational and multitasking capabilities, and attentiveness to detail.

Alternately, although relevant experience is generally preferred (with an acceptable claim of experience starting at 2+ years), it may not be essential. Other preferred aspects of a prospective applicant (that are not necessarily requisite) include experience working with a business of a size comparable to that of the organization of interest, an ethnical foundation in the search engine marketing approach, and a sense of humor.
