Chief Medical Officer Jobs
A chief medical officer (CMO) oversees clinical transformations and plays a key role in improving patient care quality, safety, and overall clinical effectiveness and efficiency. A CMO is responsible for clinical oversight and direction regarding the planning, scope, quality, and provision of all medical services. Responsibilities also include supervising and performing performance evaluations on physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other ancillary medical personnel. A chief medical officer is a key link between a healthcare organizations management or owners, and the staff. A chief medical officer generally reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
A chief medical officer should be an MD or hold a DO degree. Previous practice experience is always a plus. Proven leadership skills are important for such positions. Knowledge of healthcare organization/hospital structure, operations, and infrastructure is essential. A chief medical officer should have expertise in medical staff processes, policies, and procedures. Experience in managing, developing, or mentoring physicians is an advantage.
