Summary: With the growing advancement and high level of competition many professional institutes prefer to have experienced professional temps as there is a constant growth and advancement of industry with new requirement for skills and workers.

Law offices use professional technical temps who are lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants. Most temps who are proficient in legal terminology or who have had legal experience can work just about anytime they want to. Some law offices have their own pools of temps who are lawyers or paralegals that they employ in house. This is to make sure information within these law firms is kept confidential.

Accounting

Accounting is a specific skill that has become very popular in the temporary industry. There are lots of staffing services that specialize and place temps only in accounting jobs. These jobs can be everything from basic data entry on accounting programs and bookkeeping to a very specialized form of accounting that requires an experienced auditor, a certified public accountant (CPA), or a chief financial officer (CFO). Staffing services that do accounting work are especially busy during tax season or in the months leading up to March 15, April 15, and June 30.

Temps who have accounting skills can work in many types of industries, from tax firms to healthcare to entertainment. Every business relies on someone to take care of their documents relating to profit and loss, but not every business needs accounting or bookkeeping employees to work for them 52 weeks a year. Therefore, businesses both large and small have turned to staffing services to provide the skills for their accounting needs.

Insurance

Insurance firms use temps for systems analysis, computer programming, property management, training, customer service, and human resources work.

Medical Practices

Doctors' offices also use temps for everything from doctors to nurses to physician assistants. Another skill that is helpful for working in a medical practice is experience with insurance companies. Some technicians and nurses now work as temps because it gives them more flexibility in their schedules.

Engineering Firms

People who work in engineering firms need technical skills. Today people who temp in these firms are engineers, architects, and drafts persons. Many of these people combine computer skills with special skills needed to be engineers. The more computer knowledge you have, the better your chances are to be a successful professional technical temp in jobs relating to engineering.

Laboratories

Laboratories hire temps. It is important to get a detailed job description when working in a lab because of the type of work they do. Laboratories hire temps with technical scientific skills as well as those who know accounting.

Universities or Colleges

Many universities use temps all over their campuses. Some even have their own temporary services. Temps at colleges often perform special projects for the college or for each university department.

Computer Companies

The computer industry is growing so fast that many computer companies hire temps just to keep up with their business or to be able to staff their initial start ups and help desks. Of course, if you want to work with computers as a professional technical temp you must have computer knowledge. As a temp, you could work in a specific area that requires knowledge of a certain type of computer programming or use more wide ranging information technology skills. Working as a temp for any computer company would be a great way to gain experience in today's fast growing world of information technology.

Companies That Move

Companies that have just relocated or are brand new frequently use staffing services. New companies are not sure how many employees will be needed. Instead of starting out with too many employees, these new companies will hire temps to get the work done. Many temps who work with new companies have an excellent chance of becoming full-time or permanent employees of the company because they will have already proved they are qualified for the job.

Businesses that relocate from one city to another also use a lot of temps. This is because the companies are often not sure how many of their employees will relocate. Until their full-time employees make a decision about relocation, a company will use temps to get the work done. If a temp is doing the job of an employee who chooses not to relocate, the temp will be in a good position to apply for a job with that company.

Communications

Companies in the cellular communications business have used temps for opening many departments; because the industry has grown so fast and companies have been sure to create departments for the different types of cellular services they sell. They use temps in customer service to plan strategies for customer problems as well as engineers and information technology experts to do surveys about future needs.
