More and more people are considering an overseas move to either achieve a better quality of life or further their careers. However, this can be difficult due to the amount of time actually required to successfully find a career in another country. It involves a lot of planning, many hours on the Internet and phone, as well as numerous trips to the company you have chosen for interviews and so on. We aim to dramatically decrease the time it takes to achieve an international executive job by giving you our top five tips on how to search more economically. This will range from putting together your resume to interview techniques.

1. Choosing Where You Want to Work

There are job opportunities all over the world from Asia to Australia and Europe. Within Asia, Hong Kong is the top place to work; international executives enjoy some of the greatest spending power on the planet. Only the Middle East offers more. International executive jobs and these may actually double the amount of disposable income available in the U.S.A.

Within Europe, London is the top place to work. With the Olympics due in 2012 as well as the new terminal at Heathrow airport, salaries have rocketed and this is now one of the highest paid areas in the world. 24% of UK executives are looking to change jobs, which translates into big opportunities for international executive job seekers.

Australia tends to be the choice for the people looking to change their lifestyle and have a break from the day-to-day stress of working in New York or London. Australia's outdoor lifestyle is a major attraction and they can compete with the rest of the world in terms of salary. However, people tend to stay the least amount of time there and end up moving back to where they came from.

2. Your Resume

This is the key item when looking for international executive jobs. Your resume will be the first thing your potential future employers will see, so it's essential that it is as professional and well written as possible. We strongly advise people to hire somebody to do this for them. It has been shown that on average the salary that comes from a professionally written resume can be as much as 25% higher than that from a less professional resume.

To do this however, may cost around $500 - $800. However, when you consider how much extra it can earn you, it ends up being a very good investment. As well as improving your salary, a professionally written resume will also increase the amount of call backs and interviews you achieve. Overall, it is essential when searching for international executive jobs.

3. Your Lifestyle & Earning Potential

When searching for international executive jobs it's important that you first decide what it is you want to change? For example, is it your way of life, do you want to earn more or would you just like to live in some other major city around the world. If you want to change your way of life, then it's likely that Australia is the place for you with some of the finest beaches in the world, fantastic weather and an outdoor lifestyle.

If, however, you want to increase your earning potential, then a move to Hong Kong or the Middle East would be your best choice. They are among the highest earners on the planet with six figure salaries being common for international executives. There are some fantastic places around the world like London, Paris, Madrid and Rome and you may be interested in moving to one of these hotspots above anything else.

4. Interviews

At this point, your prospective employer has obviously been happy with your resume and you have been asked to come in for a face-to-face interview. This can be a tricky time because you most assuredly don't want to waste a trip and expend thousands of dollars on travel expenses unless there is real potential. The most important rule is to be extremely well prepared to cover anything that they may ask you before you go. Also, be sure you research their customs and dress code. For example, within some cultures, it is common to have three or four interviews, while in others you may be offered a job immediately after your first.

If you are unaware of the local customs or traditions in the country you are visiting, be sure to get professional advice because it is pointless to travel a great distance and to put your trust in what you read on a random website.

5. Organize Your Trip

When you are going abroad looking for international executive jobs or attending an interview, try and make the most out of your trip because you want to make as few offshore sojourns as possible. If you believe you don't have a very good chance of landing the job you are going to be interviewed for, then it's probably a good idea to line up a few more interviews while you are over there in order to get the most mileage out of a single trip. Approaching a company in person will impress them a lot more than sending your resume by e-mail. Prospective employers will perceive this as you making an extra effort to travel there and speak to them personally when, in reality, you were already there anyway. From their perspective, this will show that you are seriously interested in joining their organization.

Always remember that perception is what really counts. If they perceive you to be a well dressed, smart business executive, you will already be far ahead of the competition. Confidence is another key factor. If an employer believes you will fit in straight away, then you have an excellent chance of receiving a job offer.

Searching for an international executive job can be a stressful and expensive, so remember to think ahead. Then, when you are actually there, it will all be worthwhile. As long as you follow the tips given above, you should have a very good chance of landing your dream job. We wish you the best of luck!
