Senior marketing jobs are high-level jobs that supervise the efficient and effective use of marketing, pricing, and advertising methods, strategies, and techniques focused on the successful endorsement or marketing of a company's product, service, or merchandise. People who hold this kind of job typically have good communication and interpersonal skills, are highly creative, have good organizational skills, detail-oriented, good problem-solvers and leaders, can supervise good team-work, and because their kind of work can be demanding, must be open to hard work that sometimes stretches out to more than forty hours a week.

Senior marketing work demands familiarity with what works with the public, so a lot of attention must be given to knowing the specific market and being aware of how modern technology, computer marketing software, and innovative ideas can be maximized to make the product being pushed forward easier, more creative, and highly attractive. This is not to say that the job is very difficult, but the supervisory work can be demanding and needs to handle good work and results from everyone in a team under one's leadership.

Senior marketing employment can be found in sales, insurance, retail, pharmaceutical companies, advertising, public relations, and promotions. Some of these positions are for marketing account managers, marketing analysts, marketing supervisors, marketing managers, marketing specialists, and many more. They are usually under the supervision of the vice-president for marketing. Depending on the location, the industry, size of the company, position, and the individual's qualifications, one can qualify in a senior marketing occupation after earning a solid marketing experience between five and twenty years or more. But close to 50 percent of today's senior marketing jobs are held by people who have had ten to nineteen years working in the marketing field from whatever industry or company they started out.

Senior marketing work is also about making sure that the required resources for marketing a product are available and optimized. People in these positions also check that members of a marketing team are working on schedule and detailed marketing specifications and expectations are met overall. They are also responsible for monitoring the market conditions and are expected to steer their marketing teams to the proper direction when doing their job to maximize the desired effects of their marketing strategies for the targeted market or audience.

People who are interested in a senior marketing employment mean that they should have the vision to successfully build the image or condition of a product or service to the people, to be good at handling a team who can make that vision work, and make the right marketing decisions at the right time to make their marketing strategies work given all the available resources. Senior marketing jobs can also be found in television and radio broadcasts and print media who have their own marketing arm for clients who wish to have their products, services, or merchandize marketed using their own set budget. In some cases, other companies produce their own marketing strategies that may or may not need the help of the media but focused on their own marketing strategies. A company with their own marketing team can produce their own marketing plan and can choose a media outlet to just make the necessary airing or print production when they are targeting a much larger audience or market.

A senior marketing career is desired by almost everyone who works in the marketing department. There are higher positions, better compensation, more incentives, and more opportunities in this career such as marketing communications director, vice-president for marketing, and marketing directors, whose average annual salaries range between $50,513 to $212,506, again depending on the position, location, qualifications, and the industry.

For the entry-level marketing positions, many can already qualify with a bachelor's degree. While it is not strictly required by most employers, an applicant will always have an advantage with a business, marketing, or advertising degree. But companies these days give priority to applicants with a master's degree in business or marketing for a senior marketing occupation. Additionally, a higher education means a higher salary, and after spending years gaining experience, people have bigger chances at moving up or building a senior marketing career either with the same company or with another one.
