Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications/ designation such as PHR or SPHR

Position Description
The Director Employee Relations position is located on the Central Campus. 
General Function
The Director Employee Relations functions as the primary resource and liaison for employee relations for the college.  Provides counsel and guidance to supervisors and employees in interpreting CPCC Policies and Procedures as well as federal and state regulations.  Also provides assistance to the Chief Human Resources Officer in other departmental functions.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1.    Oversees all Employee Relations matters for the college. Serves as primary contact for questions concerning interpretation and implementation of personnel policies and procedures. 
2.    Provides advice and counsel to employees and supervisors.  This requires the use of diplomacy and tact and in-depth knowledge of CPCC policies as well as applicable state and federal regulations.
3.    Counsels and advises employees and supervision concerning employee relations issues.  Encourages and implements proactive approaches to conflict resolutions including participation in employee mediations.
4.    Trains supervisors and managers on communication of expectations and feedback, proactive conflict resolution, effective counseling, progressive discipline, personnel policies and other employee relations topics. 
5.    Assists in the coordination of initiatives designed to foster an inclusive environment that provides opportunities for continued staff and manager development; promotes a culture of continuous, meaningful, and actionable feedback between all team members.
6.    Partners with leaders to make recommendations and propose solutions to ensure high-impact employee engagement programs and activities.
7.     Assists in conducting employee engagement surveys. Coaches leaders to improve the employee experience by executing department-specific action plans.
8.    Investigates disciplinary situations, gathers evidence, takes statements, formulate case summaries, advises CHRO of recommendations.  Oversees formal disciplinary action process.
9.    Develops, implements, and manages the exit interview process providing regular feedback to CHRO and college administration.
10.  Directs the implementation and monitoring of the college’s performance evaluation process; coaches and trains supervisors on developing and setting performance standards and conducting employee evaluations.
11.  Leads talent planning, succession planning, and workforce planning processes.  
12.  Oversees the security and integrity of HR information including personnel files, I-9 forms, employment contacts and documents, and data entry of personnel information. Maintains employee relations information, including confidential files and records of employee evaluations and disciplinary actions.
13.  Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics
Strong leadership skills
Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to employment and labor
Ability to train supervisors and employees in a collegially diverse environment
Ability to use diplomacy and tact in confrontational situations
Strong communication and presentation skills
The ability to write reports and proposals in an accurate and timely manner
Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office products
     Experience with HRIS systems, databases and querying or report writing
