Our client is a funded start-up working out of General Assembly in New York City. Our client creates social games to prepare for educational tests. Social gaming meets education = social education. The flagship product is called play2prep, a free, fun, and social game to prepare for the ACT and SAT standardized tests needed for college admission. Play2prep is played on Facebook and mobile platforms with friends or random opponents. Think Words With Friends mashed up with Stanley Kaplan.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science or Engineering, with a Master’s strongly preferred
• 5 years’ professional experience, with 8 strongly preferred
• Experience at another tech startup as a lead developer/engineer in a production environment
• Relatively recent programming background in one or more of these technologies: Java, MySQL, PHP, flash
• Strong command of multiple programming languages
• Experience developing for and administering Facebook applications, Amazon Web Services, Wordpress
• Understands start-up culture and product launch; Ability to work in a small team environment
• Experience managing outside developers/distributed teams/cloud-based software
• Experience with agile software development
• Must be a self-starter; this person will be expected to take initiative to identify problems and provide solutions without being prodded
• Must have strong communication skills
• Experience with game server software is a plus
Responsibilities:
• Work with the team to understand business requirements and create technical designs.
• Provide technical leadership and judiciously create project plans and delegate and manage tasks to the development team.
• Evaluate candidate technical solutions exhaustively presenting relevant alternatives and justifications.
• Convert technical design into high quality working code using OO design patterns and 3rd party solutions like SmartFoxServer (“SFS”) game server.
• Use Agile development process to manage the SDLC and provide progress reports to key stakeholders.
• Fix and minimize defects in the product using optimum coding guidelines / unit testing during development, utilizing effective tools for bug reporting and fixing.
• •Evaluate usability of product and optimize for increased productivity of end user.
• Define and deliver an effective deployment plan inclusive of regression / scalability test cycles.
• Create and execute an application support plan post deployment.
